The new Stedelijk consists of a historic building from 1895 and a new wing designed by the Dutch architect Mels Crouwel. With a brand new wing, the Stedelijk now has more space than ever to show its famous collection of modern and contemporary art and its renowned and influential exhibitions.
The Stedelijk Museum is the largest museum for modern and contemporary art and design in the Netherlands. The collection contains art objects dating from the the 19th century to the present. The old part of the museum houses the permanent collection, consisting of visual art with works from Karel Appel, Marc Chagall, Vincent van Gogh, Henri Matisse, Jackson Pollock, and Andy Warhol.
